The beauty of music venue Hotel Cafe is the ability to discover new artists, they typically have a 40-50 min set format that rotates artists through the evening on the hour. Sucks when you want to see talented musicians and jam bands play for 6 hours straight, but there is an advantage. You can hear something new before/after the set you’ve come to see.
(How I heard Brooke White, The Rescues, Ollabelle, Eric Hutchinson, etc for the first time… YEARS ago… )
The luck of finding good music happened again last week. Saw Sean Wheeler & Zander Schloss after Oren Lavie, and seeing them walk up to the stage I just knew they’d be charismatic. They would either suck terribly or rock.
You can’t be mediocre and dress like these guys…
And they rocked. A punk and bluegrass twist on Johnny Cash and Pete Seeger. With original songs. Couldn’t have asked for a more interesting band to stumble upon at Hotel Cafe…
